COCOON INN HOSTEL, HANOI
This is only the second hostel I've stayed in, and like with Honey Den Hostel in Poland, it fairly smashes the stereotypical idea of what a hostel is. A far cry from being a dingy hole in the wall, Cocoon Inn Hostel provides friendly, clean and atmospheric stay at a price suitable for your budget.
Cocoon Inn Hostel is centrally located in the older part of Hanoi and is close to major tourist attractions such as Hoan Kiem Lake. With shops and restaurants galore and Beer Street only a hop, skip and a jump away, it's the perfect place to base yourself in exploring this chaotic city.
With over seven floors with rooms of varying sizes, Cocoon Inn Hostel is ideal for families, couples and tours alike, and anything in between. The room we stayed in was a large dorm with capsule type bunk beds that were built into the walls.
Not only was the dorm spacious and clean, but the beds were super comfortable and provided everything needed for a good stay: towels, electronic fans (heaven!!), reading lights, UK charging sockets (+5 brownie points!) and attached bathroom facilities.
The bathroom area comprised of five 'stalls' that each had a toilet and a shower, with a larger stall at the end for accessibility (and the only mirror in a dorm of 10+ girls...). Each was absolutely spotless and well maintained.
One of the greatest things about this hostel was the rooftop terrace with views across the city. Not only was it spacious enough to accommodate our entire dorm room, but there was more than enough room for others staying in the hostel too.
The downstairs of the hostel is laid out as a chilled bar and cafe and has an abundance of seating to socialise, as well as heavens-blessed air conditioning. Whilst I didn't sample the food, I heard nothing but compliments and good words from the others on my trip, and the menu certainly looked tasty (cheesy chips and gravy?? It's got my vote!).
I've got nothing but kind words for the staff of this hostel. From chef to cleaner to front-of-house, each member of staff I encountered was absolutely lovely and polite. Nothing was ever too much of a bother, whether it was asking for an extra towel or extra breakfast.
All in all, Cocoon Inn Hostel provides a better-than-average experience for a lower-than-average price, and if I ever venture back into Vietnam's capital, I know where I'll be staying!
